Why AI will waste your time

There is one thing that frustrates experienced marketers and ruins businesses.

Some may call it one of the fruits of the modern world.

Others will call it a poison.

In this article, I am going to break down why you should avoid using AI for 99% of your tasks when running your business.

Don’t overestimate AI

I remember watching everyone's reactions to AI as it became more mainstream.

There were generally two sides to this coin.

“This is terrible, so many people will lose their jobs!”

Or

“This is amazing, I’m going to save so much time with this!”

What most don’t realise is that both sides are wrong.

AI has come a long way but still has far to go.

Especially when using it to delegate tasks in your business.

When not to use it

I have witnessed many AI-generated ad campaigns, blog articles, email newsletters, and so on since the creation of software like ChatGPT.

And they all had one thing in common.

They were full of useless gibberish.

There are generally two reasons for this:

  1. AI likes to add context where it’s unnecessary, leading to a bunch of mumbo-jumbo that doesn’t need to be in the end product.

  2. People like to use AI to perform tasks that they themselves are unfamiliar with. This leads to the user not knowing what content to remove or correct and ultimately using what the AI has given them.

Although AI-produced content can look good to the untrained eye, from the perspective of a professional, it is primary school level at best.

AI has a habit of explaining things to you like you’re an alien or a baby.

However, this doesn’t mean that AI is completely useless.

Where to use AI

When you whittle it down, AI is just a tool.

Just like how Google can be used as a tool.

You just need to know when to use it.

AI can be great for generating ideas about almost anything.

Need a list of subjects for writing blog articles? AI has got you covered.

But don’t get it to write the article for you…

It just doesn’t excel when performing creative tasks on its own.

And the ones that do are super sophisticated and expensive.

It will be a long time until we can access a fully competent AI for free.

But for now, you’re better off getting stuff done properly.

There’s a time and a place.

Using basic AI is like taking a Ferarri to a supermarket car wash.

Yes, it does stuff quickly and with minimal effort.

But it is far from achieving the quality of someone who knows what they're doing.

And it will soon leave you with more work than you started with.

For now, it’s probably best to leave AI to school kids cheating on their homework.

The next time you find yourself using AI to delegate tasks, ask yourself two questions:

“Is this task unimportant?”

“Will I know how to examine the results?”

If you answered “No.” to either of these, it’s probably best to get in touch with a professional.

If you’re interested in quality marketing that AI could never achieve, get in touch for a free consult.
