When it comes to advertising, many businesses make the mistake of confusing their audience.
And the worst part…
Most of the time they don’t even realise what they’re doing.
The consequences of this can be fatal to a business, so it’s best to know what to look for when advertising.
In this article, I am going to show you why simplicity is best.
What NOT to do
Whenever I come across any form of ad as I go through my day, I make a point of analysing it.
After doing this for some time, I began to notice something very quickly.
And it’s that many ads out there, are confusing.
Some try to sell multiple things in one ad.
Others don’t have a clear offer.
And sometimes, they’re so confusing that at a glance, I don’t even realise it’s an ad.
These are all examples of what you don’t want to do when advertising.
The simplest way is usually the best, let me show you why…
Why not?
When discussing confusing ads, I have a saying that I always refer to:
Confused people do the worst thing…
…and that thing is nothing.
If you’ve ever run an ad that didn’t perform, this could very well be the problem.
And you most likely have experienced this yourself.
Showing a large amount of info to an audience takes some serious skill to pull off.
And most times, it’s not even necessary to begin with.
Here is what you should do instead.
Simple is best
The process of selling to someone should be smooth, elegant, and most importantly as simple as possible.
Are you selling multiple things in one ad?
In most cases, it’s best to pick the most ideal one and stick with that.
You can always run multiple ads that sell different things.
But you cannot run one ad to do everything.
As Shakespeare once said:
“A jack of all trades is a master of none.”
This absolutely applies to your advertising.
Remember this
Next time you do anything to advertise for your business, keep this in mind.
You must never sell more than one thing at a time.
Give your audience clear directions to do whatever they have to do.
Make sure they know exactly what they’re getting.
Make it easy for them, and they’ll make it easy for you.
No more needless questions and objections.
Just a smooth process from A to B.
Exactly how selling should be.
